Disaster Hubs Team: Introduction

The mission of the Disaster Hubs Team is to prepare enough Disaster Hub locations throughout the community—ideally within walking distance—to serve the population’s needs after a disaster. This preparation is multipronged, ranging from recruiting volunteers and staffing the Hubs to creating memorandums of understanding with building owners and amassing supplies.
Pre-Disaster Responsibilities
The Disaster Hubs Team prepares Disaster Hubs around the community to provide people with emergency medical care, psychological first aid, information, and limited shelter, food, and water. This preparation involves identifying facilities, making arrangements with the facility owners, staffing, mapping and organizing the space, storing supplies, and training.
Disaster Responsibilities
When activated, the Disaster Hubs Team ensures that Disaster Hubs are operating properly and being restocked and restaffed as needed. In addition, it manages bridge services within neighborhoods, connecting neighbors in need with neighbors who have extra resources and can offer support.
Recovery Responsibilities
During recovery, the team adapts the Disaster Hubs as required to meet ongoing needs of the population.
