Meeting Places: Community Plan

Consider establishing four main meeting places at the Community Level:

• A Disaster Medical Center

• A Severe Weather Shelter

• A Child Safety & Reunification Center

• A Domestic Animal Care Shelter

Disaster Medical Center

The Disaster Medical Center will be a medical clinic or hospital that you and your MRC can take over in a large-scale disaster that incapacitates regular infrsatructure. In a small-scale disaster, that facility may be operational so there would be no reason for your MRC to staff it. But when medical professionals can't get to their clinic or hospital jobs, your volunteers will be ready to use the facility to administer a higher level of medical care than provided by the Disaster Hubs.

Severe Weather Shelter

Your community Severe Weathr Shelters will open in cases of extreme cold or heat to provide shelter to people who lack adequate heating or air conditioning. These are already existing facilities where your volunteers will set up to receive guests temporarily.

Child Reunification Center

After a disaster that happens when kids are in school or in after-school programs or summer camps, your volunteers will set up the Child Reunification Center to care for children until they can be reunited with their caregivers or parents.

Domestic Animal Care Shelter

After a major disaster that results in the displacement of many domestic aimals, livestock, and horses, your volunteers will set up a Domestic Animal Care Shelter where injured animals will be treated and that will serve as the Emergency Operations Center for reuniting people with lost pets and for coordinating evacuation and temporary shelter of livestock and horses.
